Use a Word email template

I'm trying to apply a saved email template to an Outlook email. This is
a .dot file, I've used it before (about a year ago) and now I can't
remember how I did it.

The instructions I found in Word help and a Word book are as follows:

Open a blank email message in Outlook
Click in the text area of the message.
From the Tools menu, select Templates and Add-Ins.
Click Attach. The Attach Templates dialog box opens.
Browse to the template you want to attach to your email messages,
select, and click Open.
Click OK.

I do all this, and return to my original blank email, but nothing has
changed. There is no template there. No cool fonts, no colors, nothing.

What am I doing wrong? Any ideas most welcome.

What are you doing wrong? You're not sending email in plain text. What
is the point of all this formatting crap in email, anyway? Turn off
all the stylized crap and send text... plain ol' words that convey
your thoughts. You don't need fancy fonts and other junk cluttering up
your communications. If you want someone to see all the fancy crap,
send them a pdf file. Besides, if you send something to someone in a
font they don't have, they will see it in some default font anyway.
Sorry for my rant, I'm just tired of getting emails that I can't read
because someone THINKS I'll like a light blue, tiny ass font on a
white background. :/
