At work we use Microsoft Exchange and I believe .ost files. I want to take
a
copy of all my contacts and calendar home to work with on my home pc which
is
using an earlier version of Outlook. I've figured out how to move a .pst
file to an earlier version, but now I find my current data is actually in an
.ost file!!! - or is it???
IN Outlook, click File>New>Outlook Data File. When the PST has been created,
right-click Contacts and drag it to the root of that new PST in your
Navigation Pane. Do the same with Calendar. Right-click the root of the
added PST and choose Close. Close Outlook and copy that PST to whatever
transfer medium you'd like, such as flash drive or CD.
Load the medium containing the PST on your home PC. Copy the PST from the
medium to some folder on your hard drive that does NOT already contain a PST.
Use Windows Explorer to remove and read-only setting the file may have
acquired from the transfer medium. Open Outlook and click File>Open>Outlook
Data File. Brose to the PST, select it, and click OK. It will open in Outlok
and you;ll see it contains a Calendar and Contacts folder. Open each in turn,
select all the data in it with Ctrl-A, and copy the selection to the default
folder of the of the same name. For the Calendar, you'll need to choose a
tbale view like By Category in order for Ctrl-A to select all the entries.
When the copy is complete, you can close that PST.
