Use Contacts in OE instead of Address Book?

K

Kolin Tregaskes

I'm going to bug you all with more Outlook questions. :)

Is there a way to use Outlook's Contacts instead of OE's Address Book when
you click on Addresses in OE?

Setting Outlook's Contacts to the default Contacts list doesn't do this. :-(

You need to post your Outlook version but in brief Outlook 2000 in Internet
Only mode you can share the addresses, with an unsupported reg hack you
could do the same in Outlook 2002 and I am not sure of Outlook 2003

http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/oeshare.htm works with all outlook
versions- however, be aware that leaving OE open and closing Outlook is one
cause of the infamous 'outlook won't close' complaint.

What complaint it that?

Outlook seems to be open when I close it anyway, or at least takes a long
time to remove itself from memory. I've had several messages when I'm
moving or deleting the PST or setting up add-ons saying Outlook is open
(though I've closed it).

I normally find OUTLOOK.EXE running in Task Manager and close it from there.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for the link, that worked a treat, though Frank Saunders says it
doesn't work with Outlook 2003 (it does for me).

Now can OE and Outlook share the messages as well? (either OE's or
Outlook's?? :)

Why are you using OE if you have Outlook? Outlook is so much more robust, especially for handling e-mail.

That's the complaint... :)
Outlook seems to be open when I close it anyway, or at least takes a long
time to remove itself from memory. I've had several messages when I'm
moving or deleting the PST or setting up add-ons saying Outlook is open
(though I've closed it).

there.

Get http://sunflowerhead.com/software/knockout/ and you can see if it's
still running - and exit it from the tray. Since I quit sharing the contacts
with OE, only stamps.com software causes me problems. Cradling a PDA before
opening outlook and leaving it cradled when you close OL is another cause.

Re Franks comments: I shared contacts off and on during the beta and it's
always worked for me since Beta 2, including using it with an exchange
account. There were some problems creating contacts and groups using the WAB
interface, but they were all fixed in later builds AFAIK. I couldn't repro
them. The only problem I had was switching profiles - I couldn't since
outlook wasn't completely closed because OE needed the contacts.

I still can't see where OE's Address Book can be seen in Outlook or are the
2 incorporated?

LOL, don't get me started on that - haven't you seen all the fuss I've
caused about this subject already. ;-)

What I would like is an Outlook that is OE with Tasks, Calendar, Contacts,
etc added and a few tweaks.

But I'm not going to start that agruement again. :)
