Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: imap
Setup: my friend was using an ISP's email (ntlworld, part of Virgin).
- She switched to Gmail, and forwarded all mail from the ISP to Gmail. Old POP folders were recreated as IMAP folders. All worked well.
- She cannot set up POP in Gmail to retrieve it now as she is no longer a customer; forwarding from the ISP to Gmail is the only way the ISP allows access to mail as the account is closed.
- Gmail on the web works completely as expected (and was discussed on Gmail help forum; the problem is definitely at the client end).
- She uses IMAP to get email on the desktop.
- She is using Entourage 12.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.6.1, although the problem was identical on 12.1.x and 10.5.x.
Several weeks ago (as above not Snow Leopard or Office SP2-related but possibly another update), all mail sent to the ISP email address started to be forwarded immediately to the Mac's Inbox "On My Computer." TWICE. At this point it is purged from Gmail so thoroughly it is not even in the Trash or All Mail. There are NO rules / filters set up to encourage this and while there will be some cause I cannot figure out what it would be.
While this is, peversely, not the end of the world (as it allows us to work out who has still not updated their address book), it has also done this to all previously filed mail copied over to Gmail. And does so repeatedly whenever I try and move a mail back to the IMAP Gmail Inbox, or any sub-folder. Several years' worth of email (she's an active deleter, happily!) is now in the On My Computer inbox.
Questions:
- What is Entourage doing?!
- How can I stop this? None of the rules even seem to be Action "Leave It Alone"!
