Use of Custom Fields

When you customize an enterprise field type of cost say for tasks, is it possible to automatically adjust the value of the predefined "Cost" field which represents the total cost.
I just want to be able to store the cost related to some tasks like
"Travel Expenses" and "accomodation" etc. where the total cost should calculate those values

You can't alter predefined fields. I suggest you
customise another cost field with a formula that
calculates the total cost (i.e. Cost + your travel
expenses + accomodation).

Thanks for your reply; however customizing a new Total cost field will not help because some other fields are dependent on the predefined cost field like the baseline, variance, remaining etc.

I thought of updating the Fixed Cost field instead, is there anyway to automatically calculate the custom fields and assign the value to the Fixed Cost?
