use of images in form

I have a database of dental examinations of clients. I open the form to
record details of each consultation, which needs to include an image of the
clients teeth. I have 2 questions:
1. How do I make a template of the image open each time I record a new
consultation on the form
2. How do I then make changes to that image and save the unique changes to
that particular record (without affecting the template)?
Any tips on where to start would be most appreciated. I'm using Access2000.

My first tip would deal with Access 2000 -- be sure you have applied all the
Service Packs and updates.

Not covered in the materials described below, once you have the picture on
the hard drive of your machine, you can hyperlink it, and clicking to follow
the hyperlink will open whatever image-processing software is registered for
the file type. If you want every picture to start with the same basic dental
diagram, you can add code to copy that file with a new name and open it for
modification.

The sample imaging databases at http://accdevel.tripod.com illustrate three
approaches to handling images in Access, and the download includes an
article discussing considerations in choosing an approach. Two of the
approaches do not use OLE Objects and, thus, avoid the database bloat, and
some other problems, associated with images in OLE Objects.

If you are printing the images in reports, to avoid memory leakage, you
should also see MVP Stephen Lebans' http://www.lebans.com/printfailures.htm.
PrintFailure.zip is an Access97 MDB containing a report that fails during
the Access formatting process prior to being spooled to the Printer Driver.
This MDB also contains code showing how to convert the contents of the Image
control to a Bitmap file prior to printing. This helps alleviate the "Out of
Memory" error that can popup when printing image intensive reports.
