Use with a Mac?

I am in the market for a new laptop and am considering the Apple G4 powerbook but have traditionally been a PC user. Does anyone know if there is a Visio version that you can run on a Mac?

Thanks!

There is no native Mac version of Visio, but you can run it under a PC
emulator on the Mac.

Thanks John! I'm not super familiar with this chat group. Do you work for Microsoft - does MVP mean "Microsoft Visio Professional"?

A person working at an Apple store told me you can run Visio using Virtual PC on a mac, as you stated, but they were unsure of what the performance was like. They stated that some applications run very very well on Virtual PC, but some appls run fairly slow etc. They also stated that since Microsoft created Virtual PC for macs, and that Microsoft created Visio, the odds are very good that it would run and perform well on a mac using virtual pc. Still, they do not have a virtual pc test environment set up for me to make sure that it will run well on a mac. I have to use Visio so if I cannot make sure it will work using virtual pc I will have to buy a pc rather than mac laptop. Do you have any insight regarding what the performance of Visio is like on a mac using virtual pc? If you aren't familiar with this do you happen to know of a support group at Microsoft that I can contact regarding this before spending a bunch of money on something that doesn't end up meeting my needs?

Thank you in advance very much for your help!!

I have no idea what the performance on a virtual PC is like. I can tell you
that Visio is a memory intensive program, so that would tend not to do well
on a system where there is a lot of operational overhead.

Virtual PC was developed by Connectrix and Visio was developed by Shapeware
(later renamed to Visio Corp.). Eventually theses products were acquired by
Microsoft. In the old classic Mac days, I did run an earlier version of
Visio using Connectrix products and the performance was similar to running
on a PC.
I'm not sure about the current verision of Virtual PC and Visio, but it
should work. The performance of different applications using VPC may be do
to how much time the application runs VPC versus the time it needs to
interact with the machine.

Though I found a few comments that it should work, nothing definitive about
using Visio on a Mac with VPC.

One comment that is worth considering is:

"One thing to keep in mind though is that the current version of Virtual PC
(6.1) will not work on a G5 Mac. So if the user is looking for a new
computer and they go with a G5 it will not work. Virtual PC 7 will correct
this problem if an update is not released sooner."

Thank you both very much for your help! For reference, I did purchase a G4 powerbook last night, and bought Virtual PC 6.1 with Visio Standard and it seems to work just fine! I did however upgrade the RAM on my laptop to 1 Gig to ensure performance would not be an issue

Thanks again
