Using Office 2003 and Windows XP;
I'm thinking about using either Wordpad or Notepad for long-ish text data
and then either store the documents as OLE objects inside the DB or hyperlink
to separate files. The text files will contain some formatting, but only very
basic stuff, nothing very fancy. There will likley be several hundred
associated with this DB.
1) What really is the difference between Wordpad and Notepad? Why use one
over the other?
2) Does it matter which one (Notepad/Wordpad) I choose for this? Which one
is more stable and is likely to have the longest survivability in terms of
technology trends and what will be supported in the future?
3) I'm leaning toward storing the text documents as separate files and then
use hyperlinks to open/view them. I think this is advantageous since this
will have much less impact on the size of the DB. I would store the files in
a constant folder name beneath the path to the DB so the mapping should not
be a problem. BUT, what is the convetional thought out there on this? Do you
think I should store the documents as OLE objects? or as separate files?
Thanks much for any and all input on these issues/questions.
