Used same product key on Home & Student 2008!

Help!

I accidentally used the same product key on two machines with my copy of Home & Student 2008.

Now it just scolds me when I try to start the second machine but doesn't give me a way to change the key.

I've tried to remove office 2008 (via the remove tool) but on re-install it doesn't ask me for a new key, just scolds me again for having two copies with the same key.

How do I change the key or at least remove the reference to it, so when I re-install I can enter the correct key?

thanks!

Hi Stewie:

I cannot answer that question at the moment because I cannot work out how to
get the Office 2008 Remover Tool to run in stand-alone mode.

If you can, hold down your Option key while the Office Remover starts: it
will then offer to remove only the licence information.

After that, when you start the next Office application, it will ask for a
new key.

Cheers

That didn't work. I held the option key down when I launched the remover tool, and when I clicked every button and it still only wants to remove the whole thing.

However, it doesn't remove the product key. I really would like to actually use MS Office. It just won't let me enter the correct key,

Hello Stewie,

To be able to reenter a different Product ID, you will have to reinstall office, Please try the following

· Please delete \Applications\Microsoft Office 2008 folder And

· Delete User\library \preferences\Microsoft\Office 2008

· Reinstall Office

Thanks,

Priyanka

Hi, Priyanka -

AFAICT there's no need to reinstall Office if you delete those two
files. Am I missing something?

aguscalderon

just do
1.- find the OfficePID.plist
2.- open it
3.- click root
4.- delete the PID
5.- quit and save
6.- open any office app and a dialog show up asking a new PID

Yeah, she switched files on you :)

If you delete according to her recommendation, you've nuked the thing from
orbit, there's nothing left to run :)

Cheers
