USENET?

Can we get Usenet? On Outlook Express, we could get any of the thousands of
newsgroups -- not just the Microsoft groups. Yes, Google has Usenet groups,
but it's interface leaves a lot to be desired.

We tried Microsoft Help to answer this question, but couldn't figure out
what to do after we'd put in the product information on the Live Chat page.
We just kept being returned to the same page.

Admittedly, we are relatively new to laptops and to Vista. Had XP been
available, we'd have gotten it on the new laptop.

Why, oh why, has Microsoft ended XP and Outlook Express? Why are only
Microsoft groups offered?

Your question may be better answered in a newsgroup appropriate to your
problem. This newsgroup is dedicated to the Microsoft Access database
product.

That said, yes you can get UseNet with the Windows Mail newsreader. You need
to set up an account with your ISP, or subscribe to another news server. The
Microsoft newsgroups, understandably support Microsoft products, as do the
newsgroups of every other software publisher that have them support their
products.

Thank you, Arvin. I will have to do some research and remembering -- the
fact is that I don't remember how I got Usenet in the first place (about 12
years ago). But it's late at night here, and maybe in the morning my mind
will be fresher.

Cheers,
Maria

Arvin's correct that you're looking in the wrong place, but Windows Mail
gives you all the same Usenet groups that Outlook Express could get. You
just need to create a new account, pointing to the appropriate server.
Contact your ISP if you don't know what the settings should be.

Thank you, and thanks again to Arvin. I now have my favorite newsgroup (and
access to all the others). All it took was a phone call to my ISP; when I
explained what I wanted, they did the rest.

My best to your group.
