User assigned administrative tasks to self - can they be removed.

I have a user who (for some reason or another) assigned themselves a task
from another project manager's administrative project.

To rectify the situation I was hoping to remove these tasks and have the
user's actual PM assign them the correct administrative tasks from the
correct project for their department.

The problem is:

1) User CANNOT HIDE these tasks - an error message indicating that these
tasks cannot be hidden is displayed.
2) I cannot find the user in the resource list of the project plan of that
contains these tasks. I have checked ALL of the administrative projects that
he could have assigned himself tasks from, but he's not there.

I need to remove these "orphaned" tasks from his task list so that he
doesn't compound the situation and to continue to report time on these tasks
that do not belong to him.

Where do I begin?

HELP...

Any assistance would be appreciated as I could not find anything related to
this in this newsgroup.
