User complaints about using locked template .

We have a template with several text form fields that are set to an
unlimited length. The template is set on locked, and for the most part the
template functions as needed. The biggest complaint received from users is
how Word has disabled so many necessary functions with locked forms,
bolding, page breaks, etc.

When a user wants to bold a section of text in a text form field for
example, they have to highlight the selected text, click unlock, bold, then
click lock. After they click lock, Word is highlighting the entire text
form field. Is there a way to keep this from happening? Also it is not
placing the cursor at the point where you left off. Which can be very
cumersome especially in a large text form field.

Also, is there a way to create maybe a custom toolbar with the functions we
see as necessary, ex bold, spell check, etc. and have it be enabled with
the template in locked position? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Linda

No.

Yes, you can do this. You need to learn how to build a custom toolbar using
the customize dialog box. Then write the macros to do what you want, finally
put the macros on your custom toolbar. You will want your macros to
unprotect the document, make your change, and then reprotect the document
without resetting fields. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm for what
will probably be the most complex macro of this sort you would need, that
for spell-checking.

With page breaks, your styles should handle the majority of your page breaks
with the paragraph formatting and the style for next paragraph settings.
