user complaints wtih using locked template

We have a template with several text form fields that are set to an
unlimited length. The template is set on locked, and for the most part the
template functions as needed. The biggest complaint received from users is
how Word has disabled so many necessary functions with locked forms,
bolding, page breaks, etc.

When a user wants to bold a section of text in a text form field for
example, they have to highlight the selected text, click unlock, bold, then
click lock. After they click lock, Word is highlighting the entire text
form field. Is there a way to keep this from happening? Also it is not
placing the cursor at the point where you left off. Which can be very
cumersome especially in a large text form field.

Also, is there a way to create maybe a custom toolbar with the functions we
see as necessary, ex bold, spell check, etc. and have it be enabled with
the template in locked position? Any help will be appreciated.

In the Microsoft Word newsgroups it is considered bad form to post separate
messages to multiple newsgroups. If you need to post in more than one forum
(unusual) please post a single message with both forums in the header of
that single message. That way (1) your question and the various answers stay
together, (2) less space is used on the news servers, (3) less bandwidth is
used on the Internet, (4) you only have to check one forum for answers that
appear in both forums, and (5) you won't unnecessarily annoy the people you
are asking for help. This isn't meant to criticize you. We were all
beginners once and the only way to learn is to try. (BTW, a number of the
Microsoft newsgroups don't want posting in more than one newsgroup, period.
Check the FAQ.)

If you allow the users to unlock the template then is there a need to even
have it locked in the first place? Just asking, because I don't allow my
users to unliock templates (password protected).

i allow users to unlock right now to be able to access the functions they
need that are not available when locked. ex; bolding, italic, page breaks.

Forms have to be protected for the formfields to function. I have many forms
that have no passwords set.

If they are having to unprotect/protect a lot, consider redesigning the
template with a userform and insert the data via bookmarks.

Or create autotexts

Or you could create an userform that has all the formatting choices
they ask for and let the code unprotect/protect.

Word forms are the way to go, as they allow complete control over the
document. I'm not sure what your template is trying to achieve, but am sure
Word forms would be of benefit.
