User Getting Compile Error

S

S Jackson

I developed a database to manage our case files in our office.
Unfortunately, some of the "higher ups" thought it was wonderful and asked
me to share it with other around the state - argh!.

I had one of the users call me last week complaining that her copy is now no
longer working. This user is one of those users that knows just enough to
get herself into trouble, but not enough to communicate exactly what she
did. Its EXTREMELY frustrating trying to help her over the telephone
without being in front of the computer. Especially when she argues with me
when I ask her to try something.

Sigh . . . now that I am done venting, here is her latest problem:

When she called me last week and complained her copy of the db was not
working, I asked her to reinstall the front-end, figuring this would be
waaaaaayyyy easier than trying to figure out what she did. I emailed her a
zipped version of the file. After mass confusion I think she must have got
her local tech support to install Winzip on her computer. Oh, btw, she is
using Win98 and Office 97. Now she is calling saying that she copied
(extracted) the "file" (front-end) and now it is giving her a compile error.
(And you guessed it, she didn't backup the original file before she copied
over it.) The error says it cannot find this file: VEenLR3.hlp I googled
it and didn't come up with anything. Any suggestions on what I should
recommend to her?

TIA

Shelley, I think it might be a case of missing references on her
machine. A thing to check first though

- Did you Compile and Save the database before you deployed it?

If you didn't I would do that and send her another copy. If you did
then the next step is for her to open a code page, go to
Tools->References and see if any are marked as "MISSING". It's then
just a matter of her clicking and thus registering those on her
machine.
