user names get unrequested prefix on 1and1

I am using 1and1 (Microsoft hosting package).
When I create a username (eg. test) it ends up having a domain name like
prefix, eg. ntxpwus07\test

How can I prevent this?
If this something that I can control or is a "feature" set by the hosting
service.

When I set up user accounts on frontpage sites on other hosts, users could
use names with prefixes.

The user names are set upon the administration page.

thanks for your help.

it is in the place of a domain name, NTXPWUS07, no TLD on it
it makes a nuisance for users
I wonder if people see this on other ISPs
I use internic and when I specified a user name all that the user had to use
was the unqualified name, it could figure out what it was from the website
requested.

Just sounds like the way 1 & 1 has setup their authentication.

Have you checked with their support?
