I have been investigating table permissions through code and am
confused about the permissions I see for the Users Group. Even though
I turn off all permissions to all my tables and the Database for the
Users Group, I see permission value of Hex x2FE01 for all these
tables. I am turning off the permissions using the standard
Tools>Security>User & Group Permissions... dialog.
It looks as if some bits in the permissions for the Users Group are
always turned on and I wondered what that is about. All the other
groups that I did not give permissions to have a nice reassuring
x00000, which is what I expected to see for the Users group too. It
makes me wonder if I am missing something and should be turning off
something else somewhere.
Has any one else ever noticed this? Any ideas why it is happening?
Any feedback or comments are much appreciated.
I am about to revise my whole system of Workgroups for all my projects
and I want to really be sure I totally understand what is going on
before I do so, so that I don't mess anything up. I recently bought
Garry Robinson's excellent book "Real World Miscrosoft Access Database
Protection & Security" and it made me think it would be a good idea to
have a single Development mdw that can be used in-house across all my
projects, in addition to individual project workgroups to be
distributed with each project (1 per project). However, I did not pay
any attention to PIDs until now so I can't recreate Groups and Users
from old workgroups. So now I am trying to capture the permissions for
each Group/User so that I can recreate them with new PIDs.
Thanks,
Christine
