Users prior "nickname" no longer works after new Outlook install

Seeing if I can get clarification on exactly what may have happened
that causes this. Have a user who was moved to a new PC system, with a
fresh install of Outlook 2000 (running on W2000 Pro)

Had a copy of the .pst file from this users old system and did the
file==>open==>outlook data file and opened the copied .pst file into
the new Outlook install. Everything appears to be working and all old
email, contacts, etc are present.

Other users who ,in the past, would address this user by a "nickname"
reference when addressing an email to him, now state that when they
send an email to him by the same nickname method, that the user never
receives. The end user has also verified that he's not receiving emails
that internal users are sending to him.

What about a fresh Outlook install would cause a cached nickname
reference in other users Outlook app to stop working? thanks........

Conspiracy... ehm... I mean; coincidence?

Does the sent item show up correctly addressed in the Sent Items folder?

Evening Roady - didn't check specifically for correct addressing in the
Sent Items folder..but I will on the next visit. Thinking about, I
would expect it to be correct as these are all internal company users,
and users have historically had no problems addressing this user by
selecting his name from the autocomplete box that pops open when they
start typing the users name. Nothing's really changed (that I'm aware
of) except for this user has a new Outlook setup, on a new PC that is
now connected across a WAN.

When users type in his full email address, he will receive their email.
I was onsite briefly today and did and on one users machine, I delete
his cached nickname entry by highlighting and deleting, but the user
wasn't around to respond so I didn't get any further than this, for
today.

But will check your suggestion on my next visit - thanks for responding

Here's one attempt at an explanation.

Nicknames (i.e., autoresolved names) are kept in a file whose file type is
..NICK that is located in the (hidden) folder %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. I
suspect your mail profile name changed when you reinstalled and thus Outlook
created a new .NICK file.

Thanks Brian - honestly I can't tell you if the profile names were the
same from the original to the new installation. I do know on the new
install the profile name was the default of "outlook" The original may
have been this default name, not sure.

However still not understanding how if the profile names were changed
on the new install, how that would affect "other" users ability to
select this user from their nickname file, but the new user never
receive their email.

Not sure if I'm making myself clear.. Have read so much on nickname
issues on this forum..my thought process is kinda scrambled at the
moment on this issue- thx

A new install creates a new mail profile.

receive their email.

Did the mail address for the recipient change?
