I know it's possible to get a userID ( Username) in a textbox, but it is also
possible to get de real name of the users from the active directory.

But.. I don't know how..

I hope someone can help me with this problem.

Hi Mark,

yes, you are right, you can get the name from the active directory, but you
will have to white an so-called LDAP query.

I am using Sharepoint and the form is being submitted to a Forms Library.
Can you provide instructions on how to connect to AD to use it as a source
for a lookup, then assign the login id, user name and email address to fields
in the form?

Thanks!

Let me clarify. I'm not a programmer. This solution seems to be elusive to
those of us who are not. InfoPath really fails us in this regard. Since
it's part of Microsoft, you would think this would be very straightforward;
i.e., it's part of the Data Connection options or something. Also since it's
part of InfoPath's User Roles dialog that allows you to validate names from
AD.

Are any of the top-notch developers out there willing to walk me through
this? If so, I'll be happy to document step-by-step instructions and make
them available on the Web with the appropriate credit to the developer.

This is InfoPath 2003 with WSS 2003. I want to connect to AD and let the
user pick a name. From that record I want to retrieve the User's name (I
think it's the SAM name?), the login id, and and the email address.

Thanks so much!

Hi Mark,

I have written a webservice that retrieves both the users name and
samaccount name from active directory, and needed to make an LDAP call.

If you are hosting the Infopath form in Sharepoint there is a cleaner
approach to populating the list with user information. I personally
like to use the UserGroup webservice that comes out of the box with
Sharepoint.
