using a macro to input data in a field

I may be missing the point. It was a long message but if
I understand correctly, you figured out everything but
adding the current date in the "letter sent field". Use
the same query, copy it with a different name, change it
to an Update Query and update the "letter sent field" to
Date().

I am not too crafty in access but more then most--I am
trying to set up a simple database for a friend who
records that tests have been submitted, passed and letters
and certificates have been sent. I am trying make it so
this person can click a few buttons and have the letters
and mailing lables print, and update his list of letters
needing to be sent by
*creating a simle database to record tests
received, name, business, and date the letter was sent
*creating a query in this access base that draws up any
records that have no date in the "letter sent field"
*creating a macro in word that will run a mail merge on
this query for his confirmation letter and address lables
*then creating a button he can click that will open the
same query and input the current date in all the records
in the letter sent field so that he doesnt print the same
letters the next time he runs his word macro
I have been successful in creating a database, form, query and the word macro
I cant seem to figure out how to write a macro that will
open this same query and input the current date in each
record for the letter sent field---is this possible????
previously he was looking up and typing each business
name, address,on both the letter and the lable---can you
imagine? Its like using a mustang for a lawn chair....
