Using Access database on touch screen PDA

Hi,
I am in the process of creating a database for which i eventually want to be
used on a hand held PDA with a touch screen function. Before i get too much
further, i wondered if anyone could tell me if my database will compatable
with the touch screen facility. For example, where i would usually click a
command button with the mouse curser, i want to be able to just press the
button on the screen of the PDA and the same function to happen. Is this
possible?

Secondly, it is my long term intention to link a barcode reader to the PDA.
Would my access database be able to input numbers into set fields from data
provided by a barcode reader? Any useful tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can certainly use Access to design a JET database to be used by your
application, Nick. But Access doesn't run on PDAs, so you'll have to use
something else to develop the front-end application.

Question one though...have you found a PDA that will even run Access?

Hi Rick

We got round that (for the mobile PDA's) by using Visula CE and
linking this to mySQL.

But Visual CE is not Access which the OP intends to use.

Could you not use a tablet PC or UMD instead of PDA which will run
access and I would expect onclick would become ontouch

Sure that would work. Anything that runs full-blown Windows and has the
technical specs to run Access would work. But I haven't seen a PDA that
would do it yet.

I run Access on a TabletPC and it works as well as on any other machine. The
TabletPC I have is a Fujitsu, which, coupled with a quality WiFi router, is
one of the few, that I think is stable enough for 1 person to work
wirelessly on a small database. Normally WiFi and doesn't get along with
Access. It's far better to use a Terminal Server interface with WiFi and
Access.

I've also used this system with a USB barcode reader for entering members
into an Access database when they come to a meeting. It works fine too.
