Using Access DB on Virtual Private Network

Mike Santillo

In our County office, we have a main user network and a
Virtual Network for a different office of the County. We
set up a shared Drive on both Networks to share an Access
Database. I can open the database fine on the main
network, but I get this error when the database is opened
on the VPN. Error: This file is located outside your
intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will
not open the file due to potential security problems. Is
there someway we can share this database by changing user
security rights or is this impossible to do? Thanks.

It is a bad idea to attempt to use an Access database over a VPN. Access
requires a reliable network connection, and preferably one that is
reasonably fast. VPN connections do not meet either of these crieria. You
risk corruption of the MDB using a VPN.
