Using Access to open nonMicrosoft program

Is it possible to open a non Microsoft Program within access?

I have a database that creates labels for shipping, but I need a way to
programmatically print the label without having to click several times. We
currently have scan the item in Access, click on the print icon in the label
file, then click print, then go back to the database to scan the next item. I
would like to be able to scan the item, and scan a Print barcode that send
the command to print to the label file.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.
