Using add-ins in excel 2007

I want to use add-ins in excel 2007 - e.g. Anaylsis toolpak, and others for
biostatistics. They are all loaded, as I have verified this in the Excel
options / Manage Addins dialog. However I can't see them anywhere. In Excel
2003 the buttons appeared on the toolbars, or in the data menu. Microsofts
web site says there should be an "analysis" panel in the Data tab in Excel
2007, but there is no such panel I can find. Can anyone help?

You'll probably have more luck posting in a Win XL newsgroup rather than
one dedicated to MacXL...

Hey Charles. Homey .... Waz Up?

Step one. You must save the Addin in the correct directory:

/Applications/Microsoft\ Office\ 2004/Office/Add-Ins

(On the terminal command line you can swap out spaces in path names
with "\ ".)

Step two: Go to Tools->Add-Ins you should see your Add-In in the list.

I suspect that Charles doesn't have a Microsoft Office 2004 directory,
since he's using XL 2007.

Note that you can escape *any* character using \. But why use the
terminal?

Because it's UNIX.

For some people it's easier to type a cp command rather than open two
Finder Windows and drag and drop.

I guess that's possible, though it seems unlikely to me. While I use
Terminal or shell scripts pretty extensively - at least in part because
it satisfies my inner geek (I started out with *nix in the '70s) - but
it honestly wouldn't have occurred to me to use cp for that (perhaps
mv).

However, de gustibus non disputandum est!

(Note that if you have the shortcut pane open in a Finder window, you
only need one window, not two.)

FWIW, it might be more convenient to put Add-ins in a *different* folder
(I keep mine in a folder in my Microsoft User Data folder) so that, if
you ever have to remove Office you won't inadvertently delete your
add-ins. Putting user files in an Application folder is one of those
inexplicable design decisions...

Generally there are 2 ways how to run addins.
1st you install it into addins folder and it will run automatically
any time you run Excel
2nd the addins has ecxtension xla. If you find such file on your hard
drive and double click it will open excel and the addin will be
available for that Excel session,IF you close Excel - it will forgot
about the addin. So my advice would be to locate the the *.xla file on
your harddrive and double click if it will work. If so, than ad it to
your addins folder and set excel to see it. If the xla file will do
nothing by double clicking on it, I'm sorry but then there are some
features teh now version of Office do not understand.
