Using Alt key to adjust size or nudge objects

C

Corkey

Hi everyone – I am hoping someone can help me with this frustrating feature
or lack there of in word 2007 that I am using at work. I am an avid word
user and I work with screen shot and graphics all the time. I need to “nudgeâ€
the sizes of the graphics and use the alt key with my mouse to slightly move
or size the object. Have no problem with my XP version at home but for some
reason I am not able to on 2007. Is this a flaw or am I missing something?
It is really affecting the quality and time frame of my projects. I have had
to copy the object into Excel where I can move freely to adjust picture size
and then copy it back to word. This works for actual picture size but is of
no help when I need to nudge the picture, text box, arrow, etc closer to the
text in the manual.

Any suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using no key at all? I find that to provide infinite
adjustment whereas the Alt key imposes incremental adjustment. This seems to
be the case for both sizing as well as for positioning.

For positioning only, the Arrow keys are even more precise than dragging.

It seems as if what used to be completely standard - incremental adjustment
by default and infinite adjustment with the Alt key pressed - is no longer
so. I have found that some objects have small incremental adjustments by
default and big ones when Alt is pressed.

You can change the grid settings and you can make any adjustment you like
through the dialogs but I don't think you are missing anything and I am
inclined to agree it is, to put it politely, a flaw.

Hi Corkey,

I'm not having any problems in using the mouse to drag. Using the 'Alt key' reverses the behavior of snap to grid/don't snap
(With picture selected in Word use
Picture Tools=>Format=>Arrange=>Align=>Grid Settings
to see if any of the snap settings are turned on

What happens when you use Ctrl+cursor arrow keys?

This is related to your question, although not the problem you appear to have had. For anyone else who discovers they cannot use the nudge arrow keys (with or without Ctrl, Alt or Shift) do check that your text wrapping is not still 'In Line with Text'!
