Using both Office 2003 and 2007

For training purposes, I need to use both Office 2003 & 2007 with my Windows
XP. In the File Types dialog box, I have identified .XLS files with Excel
2003. When I use the shortcut to an XLS file, I get a error message saying
that "documents.xls" cannot be found. After clicking OK, it tells me that
"and.xls" cannot be found, then "settings.xls" cannot be found, etc. It goes
through the entire path and eventually gets to the actual file and opens it.
How can I fix this. The shortcut was created by right dragging the file to
the desktop and selecting create shortcut.
