using custom callout to show custom properties

Hello,

I'm having a problem using custom callouts. I use them to make the
custom properties of some shapes visible. I made a master that I have
put in a stencil, and now I use that stencil in a template. All works
fine, but if I use the master for more than two shapes, the third
custom callout stays empty: none of the custom properties are shown,
all that is visible is an empty callout. When trying to configure the
empty callout, none of the fields/custom properties of the linked
shape are shown.....

So, is there a limition in use for those custom callouts? Or anyone
got a better idea to make the custom properties visible in a
user-friendly way? The purpose of my template is to make it easy to
use, also for "visio-dummies".
The custom properties must be shown on the same sheet as the shapes,
thats one of the conditions... If the problem only can be solved using
some vb, no problem, I should be able to manage...

thx, Tom

Here's what I think you describe as the scenario:
1) Open template with stencil that contains a custom callout master
2) Place three or more shapes on the drawing that have custom properties
3) Drop and link a custom callout to each of the shapes with properties.

Then you say that callout three fails to show properties or configure. I
did not see this when working with some Flowchart shapes with the built-in
Custom Callout shapes. Perhaps you can test that scenario. There is some
logic in the callout that determines whether to pop up the Configure Callout
dialog when connecting to a new shape. Once a callout is connected to a
shape, it remembers those custom properties. If the callout is then
connected to a different shape, the dialog only pops up if the properties
are different.

Mark,

thx for answering. The test with the Flowchart shapes indeed brought
some answers. The problem is, that I made a master (custom callout) in
a worksheet using the custom properties of a shape. I changed the
order of the properties, so that everything was a little more clear.
Then I dragged the callout to my stencil. Using a "blank" custom
callout gives no problem at all, you were right about that as well.
Is there any way to keep the order I defined in the custom properties
of each shape in my stencil the same in the callout?

Thanks, Tom

I haven't figured out a way to do that.
