Using drop down for database search criteria

I am trying to build a search criteria that will allow my
users to view a database query. I would like the criteria
to come from a database field and populate the options in
a drop down box. So instead of the user having to know
the exact syntax of the field data, they can see a list of
choices in a drop down and when they select their choice,
the form returns the specified data. Any help is greatly
appreciated. Thanks...
