Using EditSite for instances of MS Project

John

I've been asked to create a separate Project Server/Sharepoint instance.
I've done this with EditSite before so I don't have a problem doing this.
The first step is to have our DBA create a projectserver database (which
I've had done). My question is this: can I (and how do I) operate this
separate instance of Sharepoint with a complete separate Sharepoint
database? It would be nice if I could have different Sharepoint databases
for these separate instances.

Thanks

It is possible, and I prefer to do this for both backup and just plain
simplicity of understanding!

- Set up a new web site in IIS, and use a port like 5656(anything not the
default of 80)
- Extend this new site in WSS Admin for use with WSS (at this stage you can
set up a diff DB for content if you want)
- Run the WSS Wizard from your Project Server install CD to ensure that it
will work with Project Server (risks/Issues/docs)
- Bingo...you are now ready to supply the information delivered to you at
the end of the WSS Wizard process to the Edit Site utility when setting up

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

I have a couple of questions:

First, when I am running the WSS Admin console (the web admin page), I'm a
little lost as to what an app pool is (and whether I should use the default
or create a new one).
Second, for the security account, what is the difference between using a
network service and create my own?

(While I did follow the MS installation guide when installing MS Project the
first time, I followed their default guidelines mentioned.)

Any help you can provide is appreciated.

I do not have knowledge to that level unfortunately. Might I suggest that
for the Deep-Down stuff, you try the WSS group, as this will be their forte.

Cheers
