using Excel 2004 in new MacBook Leopard 10.5

I am planning to purchase a new MacBook 2.4ghz machine in the next few days,
but when I went to the Apple store and played around with the new Excel 2008
application I found it very frustrating to use (largely due to the formula
bar not being immediately on top of the worksheet - I have read threads on
this site indicating that the new floating formula toolbar is a TFB change
and can not be placed so it is immediately above the worksheet) ...

... so I am wondering if I can successfully run my current Excel 2004
application on a new machine with the latest OS - or if I will be forced to
upgrade to a very non-user-friendly Excel 2008.

My current machine is an iBookG4 with the old PowerPC processor, so I am
concerned that the older 2004 application won't run properly on the new
processor and OS.

I only use Word and Excel out of the Office suite, and while I use both
extensively, I am not sure that it is a good use of my computer budget to
upgrade these applications when I don't really want any of their supposed
upgrades.

You can relax :) Office 2004 will run just fine on a Leopard/Intel rig.
I've got it here on this 2.4 MBP along side 2008. When you first install you
should be prompted to update immediately so make sure you do ‹ as you
probably already know 11.5.1 is the current build for that version. Also ‹
subject to contradiction, of course ‹ but I'd avoid using Apple's Migration
Assistant to transfer Office to the new Mac. I, for one, have never had any
success with it & have wound up having to install from scratch each time
I've tried... Although others claim to have had no problems at all.
