using file management window cause Word to crash

C

Carolynsss

Word, Excel and PowerPooint all crash when I try to open, or "save as" a
file. This is a sudden occurrence after years of using the product. I open
the window, but as soon as I double click on a file folder, I get a "not
responding" response. I can still get to file and applications from MY
Documents in the Start menu. Thanks for any help.

WOW, I am experiencing the same problem since yesterday. If you get any help
please forward the solution to me. Thanks.

Perhaps you should try looking at the *answers* to some of the posts you're

For your information, I was just referred to this site today after "wasting"
the better part of two business days for a problem that I did not create. I
am thankful for all of the respondents who cared enough to assist others
(including me) for free.

It would have been nice if Microsoft had done a better job at testing their
"fixes", don't you agree?

Nope. I don't agree. I want security holes this big plugged. I agree that it
has been a major pain for too many people, but not as big as leaving that
hole out there.

Here are a couple of earlier posts:

I don't like the situation any better than you do. However, Microsoft cannot
cross-test everything they release against all other software. It turns out
that the problem is the intersection of their security patch and some HP
software. It was not the Microsoft product that stops the computer from
working. If you disable the HP product, your computer will work. The fix
they posted helps some people. The security hole that they are trying to fix
is significant, a very real threat. I have lots of issues with Microsoft,
but here they seem to be doing all that is humanly possible.

Easter seems an appropriate time to paraphrase John 8:7 -- If you have
never given someone advice or aid that you thought would work, only to
be caught out by an unforeseen circumstance, then you have the right
to condemn Microsoft for this mistake.

Or perhaps you'd rather they left every Windows user at risk while
they tested their patch against every piece of third-party software in
the known universe. That would only take a few years...

If MS tested every hotfix against every possible combination of third-party
software (and be very clear that it is third-party software that is causing
the problem here), there would be no hotfixes.

In this instance, however, I was referring to the fact that the very
question you were replying to already had an answer posted that gave the
needed solution.
