using IME Pad - cursor doesn't appear so can't insert Chinese text

Having some problems with writing Chinese text in a document. When I bring up
my IME Pad, the cursor in my document disappears, so I am unable to insert
characters in the IME.

Furthermore, the IME tool bar comes up as a pop-up, not in the task bar like
it was before. When I click on my document, the IME tool bar disappears.

Netiher of these problems have occurred before.

Any thoughts on how to correct this?
