Hi,
As others have pointed out, when Office was installed on your computer the
Equation Editor component was skipped.
Equation Editor is a light version of a product called MathType. Both are
made by a company called Design Science.
My suggestion is that you visit the Design Science web site:
http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/
Download a copy of MathType. Use it in the full mode for 30 days at no
charge. After 30 days it reverts to Equation Editor, which you can use for
free forever. You're not under any obligation to purchase the full version
and they are good about not hounding you to death about it.
There are some advantages to following my suggestion over some of the other
suggestions that were posted.
If you run the Office installer and use it to install Equation Editor you'll
have to re-install all of the Office updates. No big deal, but it's
needlessly time consuming.
When you download MathType you get a free font that has lots of special
characters in it. You get to keep the font and use it even after the 30 day
free trial is over.
Now I say all of this based on information that's a bit old, but I'm pretty
sure it all still applies. If you follow my advice and find things have
changed please post a follow-up message.
Thanks.

On the Windows version of Word I am able to under "insert" select
"object" then pick "Microsoft equations.3" however when I am on my
home computer and am using word on the Mac version I am not able to
use any Math equations in my reports. Does anyone know how to insert
math equation into my word document from my Mac?
