Using mouse scroll wheel in Reading Layout ticks checkboxes

Hi,
We are receiving (through Outlook) a lot of protected Word documents,
containing quite a few checkboxes (around 30 across the whole doc). Word
opens by default the attachment in Reading Layout. When using the scroll
wheel (on any mouse), it not only makes the text move up and down, but it
also moves the focus between the checkboxes. At some point, it even modifies
the status (checked to unchecked and vice versa), but I have not been able to
find why (I made sure not to 'click' the wheel).
In the same veine, when you arrive at the end of the document, scrolling the
wheel in the same direction gets you to the beginning of the document again
(in other words you go round the document with a single direction scroll).
This might actually by design.
However, the first problem (not documented anywhere on MS's KB) is quite
clearly a bug. Can anybody confirm this?
This is all happening under XP with Office 2003, with SP1 installed.

I can't duplicate this behavior but I can tell you Reading Layout
doesn't work well for protected documents containing form fields! If
each ' page' doesn't contain a form field then it will be skipped when
scrolling and encountered difficulty scrolling to another 'page'. What
I didn't encounter was the scroll wheel selecting/deselecting a check
box.

Also, when I reached the end of the document I didn't scroll back to
the beginning - it stayed on the last page.

What is the exact version you are using? Take a look under Help/About
Microsoft Word and provide the version number. I will be something
like: 11.6255.6255

Thank you, and sorry for the late reply, I had problems accessing the site.

Anyway, the version of Word in question is 11.6502.6408. I tried to create
another document, and still had the problem: the document would not scroll
properly, boxes would be ticked more or less randomly, etc.

The file was a simple 5 pages document created with the =rand(10,25)
functions, and with tick boxes created in different place (with at least one
page without any). Reading layout was impossible to use.

The mouse I'm using is the MX1000 from Logitech, using XP's built in driver
(listed as HID-compliant mouse in the hardware profile), driver version
5.1.2600.0.

Any help appreciated.

I suggest you rule out the mouse. Do you have another non-Logitech
wheel mouse available? Or have you tried using a mouse driver from
Logitech instead of Windows?
