Using MPEG 4 Movie Files Within Microsoft FrontPage

Disclaimer: I will be joining the rest of society and upgrading from
FrontPage to another web design program as soon as possible, but, until that
time, I will continue using FrontPage and asking questions like the one below.

I display QuickTime movies from within my web site, using the FrontPage
plug-in, without a problem. Now, I want to use MPEG 4 movies, with superior
compression to my older files. While the FrontPage plug-in recognizes that
the MPEG 4 files are present in the directory from which they are called, it
will not load the files. Please NOTE: Using any other file format is a
non-starter. MPEG 4 or busted experiment.

Is there a way for me to be able to embed my MPEG 4 movie files within my
web site without having to write any custom code to do so? Is there another
plug-in equivalent that I do not know about that I can use? I am not
interested in making the visitors to my site download the files. They must
be able to play the movie files from the site, without exception.

If I cannot accomplish being able to run MPEG 4 movie files from my site
(without having to move on from FrontPage), I will be at peace with it, but I
would really like to be able to do this.

I appreciate any helpful feedback you can provide. Thanks!

Your visitors are going to need to download something to play an MPEG-4
file. Most people don't have a codec or player capable of playing MP4 files
on their system yet. Even QuickTime movies compressed using MPEG 4 don't
generate true MPEG-4 files. You can try using a Quicktime player, but it is
still dependent upon people having the latest version of Quicktime installed
(something that a lot of users don't have as Quicktime has the annoying
habit of taking over your media files and this makes a lot of people not
want to install it unless necessary).

Try using the following code over at:
http://www.free-video-hosting.net/embed-mpeg-4.php and see if it works. Just
keep in mind, most users still won't be seeing your videos since they won't
have quicktime or the latest quicktime. Adoption rate on Quicktime on the PC
front is still relatively low.

Another Option: tho probably not what you want...
Convert the movie into a "Flash" movie, there are severla programs out
there to do this,
and few would have nay problem viewing flash files, plus it would also
have play/pause/stop
buttons for viewer control.

Mark,

I greatly appreciate your help. For the record, I have been extremely
diligent about making sure my target audience has the QuickTime player
installed on their systems (whether Windows or Mac-based). Call me one of
those rare people who has been able to get people to view his movies.
Thanks, again.
