Posted this a couple of days ago but can't see it in my list so it seems it
may be floating around in the ether somewhere )
Anyway, here it is again and apologies if anyone is seeing this twice, but I
can't see it at all.
Asking for a friend who isn't exactly very technically minded so I apologise
in advance for the lack of in-depth detail.
Anyway, he has an MSN email address (along the lines of (e-mail address removed)) and
has always used a webmail interface to send/receive email instead of an
email client like Outlook or Outlook Express. He now has a new mobile phone
(that's "cell phone" for our US cousins )) that can synchronize
contacts/calendar functions between itself and Outlook, so he wants to start
using Outlook 2003 as his email client with his @msn.com account.
So, first question is, can Outlook 2003 be used with an @msn.com email
account? I've never used either of them so I don't know, but I would imagine
the answer would be yes, and if so, that leads to the second question of
what are the POP3 and SMTP server settings? Where would we even look to find
out such info?
And finally, I took a complete guess that the server info would be
pop.msn.com and smtp.msn.com so, just as an experiment, tried to talk him
through setting up a new email account in Outlook. Although I've never used
it I thought that the navigation may be similar enough to Outlook Express,
ie, Tools > Accounts > Mail > Add etc., etc., that we could work our way
round. He apparently came to a point where he had a button "Add new email
account" or something similar (again, I apologise for the lack of detail but
he's 30 miles away from me) that was greyed out.
Any ideas as to why he couldn't create a new account?
Thanks in advance folks,
Pete
