Using off the corporate network.

Hi All,

I normally use Access on my laptop when hard wired to the network at work.

I also use Access at home and can connect to the internet (though I have to
change the proxy setting in Explorer). At home I connect to the internet
through my wireless router.

I have noticed that when using Access at home I keep getting occasional
'hangs' for short periods. I can't attribute the hang to anything specific
but have noticed that it stops if I turn the wireless connection on the
laptop off!

So presumably Access is trying to connect to something on the network at
work but stops when it cannot detect a network connection????

The only thing I can think off is that on another access database on this
laptop I do have a security setup with the security file on the network.
Even though this database does not have security could Access still be
trying to access the security file?

Anyone any ideas please?

Your computer is trying to connect. Access is just trying to use your
computer at the same time. It's your computer that 'hangs' - Access
just hangs because your computer is hanging.

Typically, Access is the only program that notices this: that's because
Access is tied tightly into the file system, which is the part of your
computer which is hanging because it can't find something.

Even though this database does not have security could Access still
trying to access the security file?

Access always uses a security file. If you haven't secured this
database, then you are using the default security file. If it couldn't
find that, it wouldn't start at all. So this is not likely to be the
problem.

The only thing that I can suggest is to get rid of unused network
shares and printers.

To an extent I can work round it, it was just bugging me that there might be
a solution.
