Using Office 2000 with XP Pro

R. Olson

I am using MS Office 2000 for Small Business, but only
Word and Excel with my XP Pro OS. Today, when I opened a
word file I got an error (1st time ever) that indicted I
need to up-date my Office 2000. I followed the
instructions to install the update called "2000SR-1" but
it won't install. I do have my orginal Office 2000 CD in
the CD Rom.

1st, Does the 2000 Office work in XP Pro? I've had word
and excel in for 1 year now with no problems.

2nd, Do I need this update?

3rd, If I need it how can I install it?

4th, Does Office, or mainly Word or Excel czuse problems
in some OS?

Thanks,

R. Olson

Hi, R.

1. Yes

2. Well, it's always a good idea to keep your system updated with the
latest versions. As for "needing" it, you may if you experience problems
that are fixed by the patch.

3. See this article: 245025 - OFF2000: How to Obtain and Install the
Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;245025&Product=ofw2k

It gives you a way to download or request it on CD.

4. Not really; but once a product is no longer supported, it won't be
tested in later operating systems. And once an operating system is no
longer supported, it won't be tested with newer versions of applications.
