Using Office 2007 Upgrade product

I have a client that had to have his harddrive replaced. Installed the
online trail version of Office 2007. After installing office tried to enter
the license key to the cleint's purchased copy of Office 2007 Upgrade
software package - but the key would not be accepted. Is there a way to use
the key without having to reinstall Office 2007?

On the Software package of the Upgrade - it says it will upgrade any version
of Office 2007? Could I install the upgrade over the trial version of Office
2007?

A trial is not a qualifying app
When you purchase/install an upgrade version, the qualifying version becomes
part of the Licence for that upgrade installation, so in legal terms if you
lose the qualifying app you actually lose the current licence.
Presumably the client would have had a qualifying app cd from when he first
purchased the PC, or the origonal app
Upgrade paths;
.. Microsoft® Works 6.0 or later
.. Microsoft Works Suite 2000-2006 or later
.. Any 2000-2007 Office program or suite (not trial)
.. Any Office XP Suite, except Student and Teacher Edition

My client has a Dell computer that had an OEM version of Office 2003,
unfortunately, he has misplaced that disk and all he has is upgrade packages.
I am trying to find a copy of something to use as the base to install the
upgrade over.

I will look into Microsoft Works route - I believe he had a copy of Works.
