Hi all, I'm using the Organization Chart Wizard in Visio to read data from an Excel file and create an organizational chart. I'm actually using this feature to create a taxonomy of a particular programming/development topic.
1
My first question is - can anyone think of a better way of doing this
2
My second question is - I have multiple top entities (drawing the analogy of an organization - I have multiple Presidents who do not report to anyone) - Visio is able to handle this. However, I have entities/concepts in my taxonomy that fall under multiple entities (using the organization analogy - in some cases they fall under the two separate presidents)
To be even more clear I will demonstrate the organization analogy below
John Smith (President
|
| Todd Rufus (Vice President
| |
|
Jackie Nobody (Vice President
|
Santa Claus (Chairman
Joan Smith (President
|_
Santa Claus (Chairman
I don't want to create two separate entities for Santa Claus in my excel spreadsheet - I want the same entity to be able to fall under two different entities (who don't necessarily fall under the same organizational chart)
Can someone tell me how too achieve this
In summary, I want to know if using Visio in conjuncture with Excel is the best way to represent a taxonomy of programming/development topics. Also, I want to know how to allow a child entity to reference multiple parent entities
Thanks
