Using PostScript code with Word X

B

Hi,

G4 Mac, 500MHz, dual processor, OS X 10.2.6, 768 MB RAM.

I have been patient over the years with not being able to open a Word 5.1
file with successive upgrades of Word and have it print as it does with Word
5.1.

The Word 5.1 file is one that I use only once a year to a template to assist
me in marking multiple choice examination questions. It is a Word table that
forms a grid printed to a transparency where the correct answer boxes a
transparent and all other boxes have a light grey fill. The light grey fill
can still be seen through so that each answer box can be read.

The light grey fill was embedded as a brief PostScript code which Word 5.1
supported.

If I print the Word 5.1 file from Office Word X ( all updates have been
applied) I do not get the usable grid that I get when printed from earlier
Mac OS versions or even from Classic.

Obviously Word X is not interpreting the PostScript code in the same way as
Word 5.1. Can any one tell me if it is possible, and how, to freshly embed
PostScript code into a Word X table file?

If this is not possible could I suggest that this be feature be returned to
the Word application.

Hi Bob:

The function has never gone away: it's called a PRINT field.

Use Insert>Field and choose PRINT. The arguments for the field are the raw
PostScript commands your printer needs to do what you want.

Of course, they will be ignored unless the destination *is* a PostScript
printer.

I strongly suggest that you convert that table to use Word's cell shading.
Select the cell, then use Format>Borders and Shading>Fill. You can try Grey
10 per cent, but you may need to use Black and set the Style to 10 per cent,
depending on your printer.

Cheers
