Using previous versions of Office with 2007 licence

Bought a perfectly legitimate version of Office 2007.

Does this allow me to use previous versions of Office if I so desire?
Will the product key actually work?

For instance, if I want to run Office on a Windows 98SE machine, my
only choice is Office XP. Assuming I've got the install CDs, am I OK
with the Office 2007 licence?

The Office 2007 product key will not work with previous versions of
Office. Unless you have one of the volume license programs from M$, it
also does not give you downgrade rights. You'll need to search the web
for someone selling a legit older version. Good luck.

As long as you have a valid license for each copy of your software, you can
have multiple versions.

Confused.... I've got a copy of Office 2007 but its a Windows 98
machine so Office 2007 wont work. Can I use Office XP because I've
purchased an Office 2007 licence or do I need a specific Office XP
licence?

You need an Office XP license (and disks) if you want to run Office XP. And
the question begs to be asked: Why did you buy Office 2007 if you have a
system that cannot run it?

You have my sympathies. Some people really shouldn't be operating computers.
Yes, that's harsh, but there is a certain amount of basic information
everyone should know about their computer and that's one of those things.
