Using Project as a Help Desk Tool

DonovanL

We're thinking about using Project 2007 Server for our project-based work.
However, we also do support-based work via a Help Desk site that we built
internally. We're trying to find out if we could use Project 2007 Server for
the support-based work and for the Help Desk.

Does anyone have any experience doing this? Any info you can share would be
helpful to us

Donovan:

I assume that help desk application creates trouble tickets of some sort.
You can integrate the two applications to spawn tasks in a Project that you
can then track in Project Server. You'll want to start by downloading the
Project Server SDK or by enlisting some experienced help.

Actually, we'd want Project Server & the accompanying SharePoint
functionality to be the Help Desk application

Well, you can certainly build a little help desk application in SharePoint,
but you'd still need to create a little code to spawn the tasks in Project
Server. You could also simply have your help desk folks create the tasks in
Project directly, but I think you'll want more of a "help desk" style
front-end than Project Server provides.

Hello Donovan,

As Gary mentioned here, certainly you can have help desk application
in SharePoint.

Please refer "Using dashboards" section in below URL. If you have
SharePoint list that captures the service requests, so you can have
role based Help Desk Dashboard. It seems to be wonderful feature for
reporting on lists. You have to use webpart for reporting and
statistics.
