Using Project Server without timesheets

Andy Novak

We are looking at using Project Server solely for the purpose of
proving web access to projects -- NO TIMESHEETS. The individual
project leads will be responsible for updating progress at the task
level and republishing projects to the server.

However, we would like to be able to see a "Resource View" on the web;
that is a list of active resources with assigned project tasks
underneath for resource loading purposes.

Does that mean we have to publish assignments too? Does that mean
that the timesheet data will be mounting up there too although we have
chosen not to use timesheets? If that's the case, is there a way to
turn off timesheets?

Thanks,

Andy --

You can certainly use Project Server in this manner, but before you do so,
you should make sure you have configured Project Server so that it does NOT
send alerts and reminders. You can then publish every project using
Collaborate - Publish - All Information. To view the resource information
you wish, you should apply the Resource Center page, click View resource
assignments in the sidepane on the left side of the page, select the
resources you wish to see, and click the Apply button. On the View resource
assignments page, click the All assignments option in the sidepane on the
left. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the input. As a followup just to make sure I understand...

Does Configuring Project Server so that it does NOT send alerts and
reminders keep the timesheet data from being written out to disk when
"All Information" is published? In other words would the timesheets
still be populated with data and take up space? If so, is there way
to stop that?

Thanks,
Andy

No, it only prevents e-mail messages from being sent to team members
unnecessarily. The timesheets still get populated, although the team
members will never see them. Hope this helps.
