Using PWA as a time entry system to track actual work.

My company has recently migrated from MSP 2002 to MSP 2007 and I am unable to
figure out a way for resources to see thier tasks and hours on a week by week
basis within PWA 2007. We use PWA to track actual hours and resources need to
see thier total hours on a day-to-day basis across multiple projects.

In PWA 2002 when a resource went to thier "Tasks" they got a view that
showed a rolled up hour total on a day-by-day basis.

In PWA 2007 the tasks can show actual hours worked but it doesn't seem to
give a way to present a view that has thier day-to-day totals rolled up in a
way that they can easily see how many hours they have entered across multiple
projects and tasks.

Is there an easy way to do this? Is it related to the Timesheet
functionality? Does it have to be?

In the future, please post your Project Server questions in the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is dedicated to
the Microsoft Project desktop application only. To answer your question,
you have several choices. First of all, I am assuming you have set up the
Project Server 2007 system to allow task progress to be entered on a daily
basis AND that you have applied SP1 to your system. These choices are

-- You can each your team members to click in the Progress cell for any
task. They will see a "floating" timesheet grid into which they can enter
their progress.

-- You can teach your team members to click the name of any task to see an
Assignment Details view of the task, including a daily presentation of the
planned Work.

-- You can edit the My Tasks web part to include a daily timesheet grid by
completing the following steps:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions.
2. Click the My Tasks link in the Quick Launch menu.
3. On the My Tasks page, click the Site Actions pick list and select the
Edit Page item.
4. In the My Tasks web part, click the Edit pick list and select the Modify
Shared Web Part item.
5. In the My Tasks sidepane on the right, scroll down to the Project Web
Access section and then expand that section.
6. In the Project Web Access section of the sidepane, select the "Hours per
day" option.
7. In the My Tasks sidepane, click the OK button.
8. Click the Exit Edit Mode button in the upper right corner of the My
Tasks page.

Please note that the timesheet grid in the My Tasks page "centers" the
current day of the week in the middle of the grid. This means that your
people need to enter their time on a daily basis. If they wait until
Friday, they will not see the Monday cell in the timesheet grid. This is a
bug in the system and will eventually be fixed. Hope this helps.

The "hours per day" option is not appearing in the place suggested. Not sure what to do next.

Peter,

Are you using Project Server 2007? As Dale noted, questions relating to
Project Server should be posted on the Project Server newsgroup:

microsoft.public.project.server
or
http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...microsoft.public.project.server&lang=en&cr=US

if you are posting using a web browser.

Instead of putting your question out as a few words tagged on to another
question, consider posting your own question giving details such as:

What version of Project and Project Server are you using?
What are you trying to accomplish?
What steps have you taken?
What specifically happened?
What did you expect to happen?
