Using Quotations and dashes in Word

S

steven

If I am using the font "Times" and I wanted to either use a quotation
"" or a dash - , a strange icon appears instead of the quote or the
dash and there is no way to remove it. I have tried a dozen other
fonts and this doesn't happen. Unfortunately, I need to use the times
font. I went thru the preferences and can't find anything.

Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

You'd be far better off using Times New Roman rather than trying to
resolve this issue. Times is a 'throwback' to earlier technology
(although I believe it can be obtained as OpenType/Unicode) & it sounds
like your Times is either corrupted or incompatible.

TNR is essentially built on the same specs & should be a suitable
alternative.

Hello Steven,

What versions of the operating system and Word are you using? Is it really
an icon, or a character, albeit an unusual one? When you say "there is no
way to remove it", does that mean you can't delete it with the Delete key?

Post back and someone will be in a better position to help you.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I get the same problem with Times
and Times New Roman. I cant even copy and paste the symbol that is
shown for either a quote or an apostrophe because if I put it in this
email for example it automatically is changed back to a quote and
apostrophe.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Thank you for your help. Unforunately I cant even show you what those
symbols look like because when I copy and paste them inside this email
for example, those symbols appear normally as a quote and apostrophe.

I am using Mac OS X and Mac Word X. This only seems to happen to Times
and Times New Roman. Granted I havent checked this is out on every
single font.

I can delete the symbol using the delete key but if I retype the quote
or apostrophe I get the same symbol.

Thanks so much for your help.
