Using Save as in Project 2007

I have built a project in MS Project 2007 and am trying to share it with
someone using Project 2002 and Project 2003. I use the "save as" function and
choose "Microsoft Project 2000 - 2003" but when those other users attempt to
open the file, the are given the option to download the 2007 viewer or cancel
the attempt to open the file.

If I'm saving this to the old format, shouldn't it just open right up? If
so, what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Jeff,

It doesn't work that way. The same thing happened to me.

Have them download the viewer, open the file, then save it themselves.

Due to corporate policies and restrictions on desktops, that is not an
option. This appears to be a bug.

Something else that I discovered that works... Don't send it from within
Project 2007 by using the "Send as attachment" -- save it to a location into
the previous format. Then send it from Outlook as an attachment... previous
versions can then open the file... My guess is that when it is open in
Project 2007, regardless of the version the file was saved as, it is mailed
as a 2007 file type.
