Using "Save As" to save Read Only Files

I am having a problem that I have not had in the past. Our office has a
lot of Word documents that we use as templates. These documents are
saved on a Novell network volume as read only. Recently, I believe
after I installed office SP1, when ever I open one of these documents,
change it as needed and save it as the document I need it works fine.
However if I fail to close the document right away and go back to edit
some more information the file changes to Read Only and I have to use
Save As again and rename the file a second time. This can go on for as
long as I leave the document open.

Currently I am the only one running this version of MS Office. All other
work stations are running MS Office 2000 and are not having this problem.

Anybody have any suggestions? I am going crazy!!
