Using Scanpst.exe

I have used the utlity scanpst.exe on one of my pst
files. I came up with no errors. I have a 1.8gig pst,
the problem is that I want to delete some mail from this
file but I cannot the message states: The messagig
interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists restart Outlook.
I have restarted outlook but still receive the same error
when trying to delete from the archive.pst.
