Using Selecting text to copy over

I used to be able to select text and then paste new text
in its place. Now, when I paste the old text does not
disappear. How do I change back to my format?

Make sure you have "Typing replaces selection" checked on the Edit tab of
Tools | Options and don't have Track Changes enabled.
