Using Thai font with word

B

I have recently tried to install a Thai font to use on my G3 imac using
OSX 2.6.

I clicked on the system prefs and international and then checked the
Thai flag in the imput method but although I could write in Thai in Text
Edit and Safari, I couldn't change to the Thai flag when using word or
ICQ as it is shaded over like it can't be selected. This is despite the fact
I can use japanese fonts no problem.

I tried to download a seperate Thai font and put it in my Library/fonts
folder and now at least I can select the Thai font from the font list in
word and type in Thai this way, but when i use the thai font the
language flag is still on the English one. Usually when I change to
Japanese using keyboard shortcuts the flag changes to Japanese. Is
there a way I can assign the downloaded Thai font to the Thai flag so I
can quickly and easily change between languages?

Hi,
I have recently tried to install a Thai font to use on my G3 imac using
OSX 2.6.

The problem is that I suspect Thai fonts would have to be unicode
encoded. As long as applications are Unicode aware, everything is fine
(eg TextEdit), but applciations like Word can't use it. The exception
being Japanese fonts since the US version of Office comes with an
enabler for Japanese fonts.

The Tahi flag is dimmed in Word because there is no non-unicode Thai
font Word can use.

Unfortunately, Thai is not a language supported in Office X. The Thai
language keyboard in the Input menu is unicode based, hence it will not
become active when you are in Word or any application except, perhaps,
Entourage.

Could you please tell me where you got your Thai font from?

Thanks

For OS X 10.2, there are 5 Unicode Thai fonts in one of the font installers
on the second installation CD-ROM.

For OS 8 and 9, you can buy a Thai Language Toolkit from this Web site:
http://www.dcothai.com/software/mac.htm
or from here if you are in Thailand:
http://www.dco.co.th/software/mac.htm

If you are in Bangkok, you can buy it from several of the Apple dealers in
Pantip Plaza on Petchaburi Road.
